VanDuyne Urges Joliet to Wait For Intermodal Study

Joliet Intermodal Transportation Plan costs $330,000, due to release by July 1.

On March 21, 2019 the County of Will entered a contract with Chicago-based CDM Smith Inc. to devise a Will County Joliet Intermodal transportation plan. There were financial contributions made by the City of Joliet, CenterPoint Properties, Union Pacific, Will County and a grant by the State of Illinois to enter this agreement.

The contract originally was for $250,000 with another $80,000 added March 6, 2020 with the target completion by July 1, 2020.

This study is critical for understanding the transportation infrastructure needs in the area between Interstate 55 and US Route 52 and between Interstate 80 and Hoff Road.

Modeling for the study includes three scenarios: baseline development – a scenario using the current level of activity; full build out – a scenario that reflects increased activity in the study area including a full build out of the freight clusters identified in the Will County community friendly freight mobility plan; additional development – an extreme scenario of additional development to understand the impacts on roads and highways.

As the Will County Board’s Chairman of Public Works and Transportation Committee, I would strongly urge any decision makers to hold off on any projects that would add an abundance of vehicular traffic on our infrastructure within the study’s boundaries until the results are provided. Any decisions made that would impact this area prior to the plan’s release would waste the efforts and tax payer dollars already spent on this study.

  1. “Any decisions made that would impact this area prior to the plan’s release would waste the efforts and tax payer dollars already spent on this study.” <- THIS!!

  2. baseline development is that baseline road you are taking about?? Baseline road connects onto Vetter rd. Vetter Rd keeps getting lost in all of this. On map plans you see that Vetter Rd is lost. they’ve replaced Vetter Rd with Baseline rd or Elwood INTERMODAL Rd it’s not Vetter Rd has always been there long before a Rd was made thru the Arsenal army base north of Arsenal Rd. And Vetter Rd is a residential rd. there are families that live on it. and it’s Vetter Rd that the Centerpoint expects the trucks to go down to get to that HOUBOLT bridge if it ever gets built. So the study needs to be done of how it’s gona affect those people on Vetter Rd. we keep getting ignored and ENOUGH ENOUGH!!! WE HAVE ALREADY HAD IT WITH THE CURRENT DEVELOPMENT THE NOISE FROM THE WAREHOUSES AND TRUCKS ARE AFECTING OUR HEALTH IN A NEGATIVE WAY . OUR STRESS LEVELS ARE WAY UP TO WHERE WE’ E BEEN HOSPITALIZED CAUSE OF IT. WE DON’ WANT ANYMORE AND CERTAINLY DON’T. WANT NORTHPOINT. SAY NO TO NORTHPOINT!!!!!!
