The path of Illinois Route 53 in Elwood, just south of Joliet, is bucolic. Running along the east side of the road, travelers spot bison grazing at the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. Farm fields and open space grace historic Route 66 as it moves through Will County. It is the road traveled by thousands of veterans to their final resting place at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, the country’s second largest national cemetery.

Environmental Organizations Attempting To Stop NorthPoint

Environmental organizations Openlands and the Sierra Club, along with individual members of the Just Say No to NorthPoint grassroots community group, filed a motion seeking to join a lawsuit against the City of Joliet, which if granted would make it the third complaint filed regarding East Gate’s beleaguered NorthPoint intermodal facility, otherwise known as Compass Business Park in Joliet, Illinois.
