WJOL: NorthPoint’s Unauthorized Cutout Road No Longer Exists

Less than 24 hours after reporting on an unauthorized cutout from a controversial construction site to a significant Will County road, the cutout no longer exists. On Wednesday morning WJOL News reported on the cutout that NorthPoint had constructed a cutout onto Route 53 from the work site to move the trucks in and out of the area. JHN Column: Is what’s good for Dunkin’ Donuts good for NorthPoint?

I had forgotten the story, but NorthPoint opponent Marge Cepon had not.

The headline: “Joliet wants traffic study for Dunkin’ planned at Six Corners.”

That was in June when the council delayed a vote on the Dunkin’, previously known as Dunkin’ Donuts, until a traffic study would be done because of the potential impact at the Six Corners intersection.

A lot of people are clamoring for a look at a NorthPoint traffic study for its proposed Compass Global Logistics Hub, which is expected to generate more than 10,000 trucks a day when it is built out. But they aren’t seeing it…. read more →

The path of Illinois Route 53 in Elwood, just south of Joliet, is bucolic. Running along the east side of the road, travelers spot bison grazing at the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. Farm fields and open space grace historic Route 66 as it moves through Will County. It is the road traveled by thousands of veterans to their final resting place at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, the country’s second largest national cemetery.

Stop NorthPoint Subpoenas Shanahan for Documents

Stop NorthPoint LLC served former Joliet City Manager Martin Shanahan with a subpoena Friday as part of the group’s lawsuit against the City of Joliet and NorthPoint Development. The subpoena seeks the productions of documents in Shanahan’s possession or control relating to studies pertaining to water issues, environmental impacts, traffic, noise and vibration, “whether contained in paper or saved electronically in thumb-drives.”… read more →
